Dr. Goodluck Jonathan Declares Presidential Ambition In 2011

At Eagles Square Abuja on Sat 18-Sep-2010, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) publicly declared his ambition to vie for the Presidency of Nigeria in 2011, on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Many people attended the occasion - Governors, past leaders and many other important personalities. Many of them made speeches about moving Nigeria forward and their support for GEJ and Vice President Namadi Sambo, as the most credible pair to undertake the difficult task.

The PDP has been in power at the center for sometime now. All Nigerians, including the political juggernauts in all the Parties, agree that our past leaders fell short of expectations with regard to leadership, and they all agreed that GEJ should clean up. I hope that they all understood what they are urging him to do. The situation before GEJ became President was that one needed to be in the PDP to get goodies and protection from the federal government, whether at the personal or state level. This is why those that left the PDP have trooped back to the party. How then can GEJ clean Nigeria from within the almighty party? I am very very interested in how GEJ solves this puzzle in the coming days.

GEJ is faced with a daunting task and so needs the support and Godly prayers of everybody, especially the common man. From my small corner at Enugu, I hope that GEJ has not forgotten about Citizen Jonathan Obikpo's anguish at the hands of Mr. Nessim Gaon of Israel: http://en.netlog.com/jonathanobikpo/blog. If I may be allowed to quote from Mr. President's speech:

- We will fight for JUSTICE!

- We will fight to protect all Citizens!

- We will fight for your rights!

These words are soothing music to my aching ears. Accordingly, if GEJ directs that my suffering at the hands of Mr. Nessim Gaon of Israel be solved, his presidential fiat would immediately come to pass. It is natural for me to hope that this issue would be solved quickly, and not reserved for the second term.

One does not need to wish GEJ good luck; Goodluck is his name, so I wish him God speed as he grapples with our hydra-headed problems; particularly saving Nigeria from the archaic and inimical one-party state, and returning it to democracy as generally understood on planet Earth.

Jonathan Obikpo
